They continued to live together until 23 Apr 1887 when she was compelled to

leave him on account of his cruel treatment of her. That in Nov 1885, Rufus

became jealous of her and began accusing her of having criminal connections

with her brother George Isaaacs and has kept up such accusations until the

present. That Rufus, since he became jealous, refused to take her to see her

father and mother who lived about three miles from the home of Rufus, and

refused any conveyance for her to see them. That last July, beig anxious to

see her parents, she carried the baby and walked to her father's home and from

becoming over heated, she was taken violently sick and said sickness lasted

about 5 days and becoming dangerously sick, she sent for her husband and he

refused to come to her, but he did come after the Doctor told him that she was

dangerously sick. She futher states that he has been cruel to her, cursing and

abusing her, accusing her of infidelity, whipping and beating her so much that

she can no longer live with him. That she has had three children by said

marriage: Moses A, Mary A and William M of whom she asks custody.

Joseph R Rutherford, Thomas's second wife's brother, lived in the household of Jesse Elliott, father of Thomas's first wife. He gave an affidavit as to the marriage of Thomas and Catherine Elliott as their marriage records were destroyed by fire. Thomas applied for a pension on his son Jasper who was killed in the Civil War. Thomas was blind by 1860. Could it have been diabetes?
